This is my first time at a gym.
What kind of help can I expect?
At Shapes Fitness for Women, YOU are our priority. A trainer will take you step-by-step through your first workout. You will be shown the benefits and procedures of each piece of equipment. If you need further assistance, please ask any fitness consultant for help. That's why we are here!
Why do I need to monitor my heart rate?
Monitoring your heart rate is one of the most important things you can do to make sure you are getting the optimal results from your workout. In order to burn the most fat possible, you should work to maintain your heart rate between 60% and 80%. Our charts on the wall and our prerecorded 1 O-second count allow you to quickly and accurately determine your current workout level.
How soon can I expect to start seeing results?
The frequency, intensity, and the duration of your workouts will directly affect your results. Also, remember that being healthy is also about eating healthy and minimizing stress. That being said, most members will lose inches, have more energy, and feel better within the first month.
How do I know when I need to be measured?
When you sign in, the computer will notify you of your measurement day. When your day arrives, just let one of us know, and we will get you measured and on to your workout quickly. We can also track your progress using our fitness software.
How high should I turn up the resistance levels on the machines?
To lose body fat and inches, keep the machines at a low resistance that allow you to perform quick repetitions on each piece of equipment. If your primary goal is to build lean muscle mass, use a higher resistance on the machines and perform the reps at a slower pace.
How many calories does the workout burn?
Research shows that a 30-minute Shapes workout burns between 350-600 calories, depending on the fitness level of the exerciser and intensity of the workout. As you progress and get stronger, you will burn off more calories each workout.
If I workout on the circuit, do I still need to do other aerobic workouts?
Not unless you want to. The Shapes circuit workout exceeds the minimum requirements to improve aerobic function as established by the American College of Sports Medicine. Your resting heart rate will decrease dramatically as a result of regular Shapes workouts.
